6 December 2012: The International Partnership on Mitigation and Measuring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) has published the second edition of its quarterly Mitigation Newsletter for November 2012. The Newsletter includes reports of recent activities on mitigation, including on technical workshops held in Chile, Thailand and Costa Rica.

The newsletter features input from members, including: development of local mitigation plans in Indonesia; monitoring and evaluation of climate change actions in South Africa; and description of the Colombian Low Carbon Development Strategy. It also lists new projects, new documents and upcoming events.

The International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV focuses on three primary areas. The first topic is Low-Emission Development Strategies (LEDS), strategies that incorporate low-emission growth and climate-change-resilient social development. The second Partnership topic is Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs), which emphasize national ownership and response to climate change under the unique conditions of each country. The third is Mitigation and MRV systems, which refers to all measures States take to collect data on emissions, mitigate actions, support poor countries, and compile reports and inventories subject to international review.

The Partnership is comprised of approximately 40 members, over half from developing countries. Member countries include: Australia, Belgium, Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ethiopia, the European Commission, France, Germany, Ghana, Grenada, for the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the UK and the US.

The Partnership was announced in the framework of the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in May 2010 in Bonn/Germany. It was announced by South Africa, South Korea and Germany.
