Inequalities Consultation Releases Summaries of 10 Online Discussions

With the ten online discussions on inequalities concluded, the World We Want 2015 Platform features a compilation of mid-discussion summaries and final synopsis summaries of the e-discussions, which took place between October 2012 and January 2013.

A Leadership Meeting on Addressing Inequalities convening in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 18-19 February 2013, will review the consultation findings and develop a statement and recommendations.

January 2013: With the ten online discussions on inequalities concluded, the World We Want 2015 Platform features a compilation of mid-discussion summaries and final synopsis summaries of the e-discussions, which took place between October 2012 and January 2013. A Leadership Meeting on Addressing Inequalities, which will convene in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 18-19 February 2013, will review the consultation findings and develop a statement and recommendations.

Summaries are available for the online consultations on inequalities relating to: Gender Equality; Gender-Based Violence; Development and Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) People; Persons with Disabilities; Economic Inequalities; Indigenous Peoples; Young People; Urban Areas; and Minorities, as well as a closed, expert discussion on Measurement and Assessment of Inequalities.

The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and UN Women are co-leading the global thematic consultation on inequalities, with support from the Governments of Denmark and Ghana. In addition, several agencies and individual experts moderated the online discussions, including: the UN Development Programme (UNDP); the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA); the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR); the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT); the International Labour Organization (ILO); UN Volunteers (UNV); the Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (SPFII); Arc International; the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED); the Overseas Development Institute (ODI); Minority Rights Group; Restless Development; Save the Children; Slum Dwellers International; and World Vision International.

The synopsis summaries are currently available in English, with French and Spanish versions posted as they become available. Inequalities is one of 11 themes being addressed on a global level by the UN Development Group’s (UNDG) consultations on the post-2015 development agenda.
