25 June 2013: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD) has launched the English version of the report of the Participatory Governance Assessment (PGA) in Indonesia. The document, titled ‘2012 Indonesia Forest, Land and REDD+ Governance Index,’ is the first of four PGA reports expected from REDD+ partner countries that also include Ecuador, Nigeria and Viet Nam.

The report highlights the forest governance index process and results in Indonesia, focusing on an analysis of land and forest governance as they relate to REDD+ in 10 provinces. The PGA process is part of a pilot programme designed to establish a baseline in terms of forest governance and present recommendations for further action. The report presents the findings on a scale of 1-5 for the provinces studied, as well as for central governance issues and local governance in 20 districts surveyed.

The report was compiled by the national REDD+ Task Force in collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry, the National Development Planning Board (BAPPENAS) and partners from UN-REDD, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP). Consultations with civil society and academia were also carried out.
