IN-SHP Newsletter Highlights Small Hydropower Research Activities and Regional Projects

The newsletter highlights recent achievements of the ICSHP, regional hydropower projects in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe, and the upcoming first "World SHP Development Report".

10 May 2012: In its latest newsletter, the International Network on Small Hydro Power (IN-SHP) highlights activities of the International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP), including the first “World SHP Development Report,” as well as regional hydropower initiatives.

The newsletter features an article on an interview given by Dr. Liu Heng, Director General of IN-SHP and Director General of the ICSHP, to China Water Resources News, in which he discusses the promotion of rural hydropower in China and the recent achievements of the ICSHP, including: international outreach activities and training courses; a hydropower project in Zambia and progress on the “Lighting Up Rural Africa” initiative; Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) activities; the preparation of the first “World SHP Development Report;” and research on green hydropower in China.

The newsletter further highlights several regional hydropower projects in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe, including projects in: Zambia; Uganda; Peru; Guyana; Ecuador; the Republic of Korea; China; Italy; Scotland; and Switzerland. The newsletter also discusses several new SHP CDM projects, and upcoming hydropower and clean energy events.

The IN-SHP is a network of 380 organizations in 78 countries engaged in small hydropower activities. The IN-SHP is headquartered at ICSHP, a non-profit institution under the auspices of the UN Industrial and Development Organization (UNIDO), and China’s Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Commerce.
