14 July 2010: The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), has released a 12-minute film describing the experiences of a pilot project to provide livestock insurance to pastoral farmers in the Marsabit District of Kenya.

The insurance project represents a strategy for local herders to adapt to the frequent drought conditions in marginal areas for agriculture. The insurance scheme is a joint project between partners from different sectors, including private insurance companies and national and international research institutions. The film describes the potential for similar insurance schemes to be developed across Africa. [The Film]
