Green Jobs: Towards decent work in a sustainable, low-carbon world 24 September 2008: The International Labor Organization
(ILO), UN Environment Programme (UNEP), International Trade Union Confederation
and the International Organization of Employers have released the first
comprehensive study on the emergence of a “green economy” and its impact on the
world of work.

The report, Green Jobs: Towards Decent Work in a Sustainable,
Low-Carbon World, examines how green jobs are changing patterns of employment
as a result of measures to tackle climate change and to reduce emissions of
greenhouse gases.
The report finds that the impacts of climate change, which
are already being felt, will continue to have negative effects on workers,
especially those whose livelihoods depend on agriculture and tourism. The
report recommends taking urgent action to tackle climate change as well as to
cope with its effects and to design such action so as to generate decent jobs.
