October 2017: The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) has updated its NDC database, which compiles and summarizes the main elements of countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The database features NDC information on, inter alia: climate mitigation and adaptation pledges; finance and technology transfer requirements for developing countries to achieve their targets; and the use of various market mechanisms by each country.
The database references information on the Paris Agreement’s implementation progress, and is regularly updated with new signatures, ratifications and NDC submissions. Data are presented in the form of maps, charts and tables. The updated version includes 12 Paris Agreement ratifications, 11 first-time NDC submissions and detailed NDC information on Palestine’s and Timor-Leste’s first-time submissions.
The IGES database lists mitigation types in five categories: absolute emission reduction, carbon intensity reduction, peak of carbon emissions, policies and actions, and relative emission reduction. The adaptation summary includes a list of adaptation policy measures in each adaptation sector.
The database identifies, inter alia: technologies that were highlighted as needed in the NDCs; international, regional and bilateral market mechanisms; and national or sub-national trading schemes.
The database also provides an overview of the status of accession to and acceptance of the Paris Agreement by each country by indicating whether the agreement has been signed, signed and ratified or remains unsigned.
