19 March 2012: The Japanese Institute of Energy Economics (IEEJ) hosted a symposium in Tokyo focused on Standard and Labeling (S&L) policy development assistance in a number of Asian countries, including China, Viet Nam, India, Indonesia and Thailand.
Since 2006, IEEJ has worked with the Collaborative Labeling and Appliance Standards Program (CLASP), a US non-profit organization, on a project to establish energy-efficiency standard and labeling systems and policies in Asian countries. This year’s symposium explored international trends in S&L policy development assistance, with sessions on, inter alia: activities of the Energy Efficiency S&L policy development supporting project; the Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) Initiative; an introduction to the Efficient Electrical End-use Equipment (4E) programme at the Institute of Applied Energy (IAE); and reports on current S&L policies in China, Viet Nam, Thailand, Indonesia and India. The symposium concluded with a question-and-answer session between participants and panelists.
The symposium was sponsored by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, and the Japan Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ). IEEJ is an associate member of the Global Network on Energy for Sustainable Development (GNESD), a UN Environment Programme (UNEP) faciliated knowledge network on energy, development and environmental issues.
