IEAG Receives Several Hundred Comments on Draft Report on Data Revolution

The UN Secretary-General's Independent Expert Advisory Group on a Data Revolution for Sustainable Development (IEAG) issued a draft of its report, solicited comments during a public consultation period, and is now finalizing the report for publication.

It will be shared on 6 November 2014, following a presentation to the UN Secretary-General.

data-recolution-group27 October 2014: The UN Secretary-General’s Independent Expert Advisory Group on a Data Revolution for Sustainable Development (IEAG) issued a draft of its report, solicited comments during a public consultation period, and is now finalizing the report for publication. It will be shared on 6 November 2014, following a presentation to the UN Secretary-General.

According to an update on the website from Claire Melamed, head of the IEAG secretariat, the comments received between 24-27 October were of “exceptionally high quality, thoughtfulness, constructiveness and usefulness.” Almost 500 comments were posted publicly on the website, and several hundred were submitted privately.

The draft report, titled ‘A data revolution for sustainable development,’ includes sections on: What is the data revolution?; A revolution for what?; The state of data; The data we want for sustainable development; and Mobilising the data revolution for sustainable development: a call to action.

It also outlines ten ‘Basic Principles for Data Revolution for Sustainable Development’: Data quality and integrity; Data disaggregation; Data timeliness; Data transparency; Data openness; Data usability and curation; Data protection and privacy; Data governance and independence; Data resources and capacity; and Data rights.
