IEA10 May 2012: The International Energy Agency’s Renewable Energy Technology Deployment (IEA-RETD) implementing agreement held a workshop on 17 April 2012, in London, UK, on financing and speeding up large-scale deployment of renewables.

Participants considered that new financing approaches may need to combine support mechanisms with new financial products, under management of national infrastructure banks, as well as bring together job creation, finance, innovation and policies for energy security, national economic recovery and sustained competitiveness. Speakers also discussed the needs of the financing sector in terms of government policies and measures against the limitation of currently depleted government budgets, and actions by governments to decrease investor risks and create a stable investment environment.
