IEA2 December 2013: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has published a report, titled ‘Energy Policy Highlights,’ which showcases new developments in IEA member country energy policies, including examples of challenges, successes and best practices of policies and policy development. The examples were chosen to illustrate the changing nature of energy policy in the 21st century.

The report looks at all 28 IEA member countries and is divided into sections on: general energy policy; energy efficiency; electricity; renewables; oil and gas; and energy research and development. Many policies examined aim primarily at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while others focus on bringing renewables into the energy mix in the most cost-effective manner possible.

The report does not offer overall conclusions, but rather lets each evaluated policy speak for itself, with all country examples highlighting: policy objectives; policy characteristics; challenges faced during implementation; why it is considered a success; and lessons to be shared.
