24 November 2011: Accompanying the publication of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) new book “Deploying Renewables 2011: Best and Future Policy,” the IEA has released three Information Papers on various aspects of renewables deployment.
The paper “Renewable Energy: Policy Considerations for Deploying Renewables” explores energy security, economic development and environment protection as the strategic drivers behind renewable energy deployment, and assesses various renewables technologies abilities. It also analyzes barriers to deployment as they vary across stages of market maturity.
The paper “Renewable Energy: Markets and Prospects by Technology” discusses technical data and market status, cost trends, policies, future deployment projections, and key hurdles for ten technology sub-sectors: bioenergy for electricity and heat, biofuels, geothermal energy, hydro energy, ocean energy, solar energy (solar photovoltaics, concentrating solar power, and solar heating), and wind energy (both onshore and offshore).
The paper “Renewable Energy: Markets and Prospects by Regions” offers a detailed examination of regional markets and policy trends in six regions consisting of 56 countries. Each region is analyzed in terms of: recent market developments in electricity, heat and transport; policy; IEA deployment projections; renewable potential in 2030; and specific strategic drivers pushing deployment.
