story highlights

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) jointly held four workshops where participants heard an analysis from the Energy Technology Perspectives 2012 specifically on smart grids, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and on the integration of wind energy.

IEA31 October 2012: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) recently organized four joint workshops focusing on the potential for deployment, as well as best practices for wind energy, smart-grids, and other power generation innovations, and launched the IEA How2Guide initiative in Asia for smart grids in distribution networks and wind energy.

Welcoming the IEA’s How2Guide initiative, WooChong Um, ADB Deputy Director General, Regional and Sustainable Development Department, noted the ADB’s investment of over US$2 billion in sustainable-energy ventures, as well as the demand for low-carbon energy in the region.

The workshops convened at ADB headquarters in Manila, the Philippines, and brought together over 50 participants from 15 countries. Participants heard an analysis from the Energy Technology Perspectives 2012 specifically on smart grids, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and on the integration of wind, and other variable power sources.
