Iea-new Logo3 November 2009: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has announced the first six winning districts of the global District Energy Climate Award at the District Energy Summit, which took place from 2-4 November 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In response to requests from the G8 in 2007 to aid in clean energy scenario and strategy building, the IEA created the International Combined Heat and Power/District Heating and Cooling (CHP/DHC) Collaborative to facilitate the evaluation of global lessons learned in this area and support and guide international clean energy efforts.
Within this framework, and in cooperation with the Danish District Energy Association, Euroheat & Power, the Danish Board of District Heating and the International District Energy Association, the IEA then developed the District Energy Climate Award to increase awareness of the environmental, energy security and economic growth benefits offered by efficient district-based energy systems.
