story highlights

The International Energy Agency (IEA) announced the publication of annual medium-term reports on renewable energy, the first of which is expected in July 2012.

IEA23 February 2012: The International Energy Agency (IEA) announced a new publication series on renewable energy, starting in July 2012, providing annual medium-term projections on the renewable energy market.

The new series of annual medium-term reports stems from the success of an initial 2011 report, titled “Summary of Deploying Renewables – Best and Future Policy Practice.” The renewables series will join existing series on oil, gas and coal. The next report, expected in July 2012, will address the current state of play of renewable energy, assess the main drivers and barriers to deployment at the country level, and produce 5-year projections for global renewable energy electricity capacity and generation. The report will also examine global renewable energy finance, and technology development and manufacturing.
