IDB17 February 2012: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$100 million loan to Banco Itaú to finance projects relating to renewable energy, energy efficiency, cleaner production in manufacturing and processing, and projects generating carbon credits in Latin America.

The loan, which includes technology and development assistance for energy projects, is an attempt to guide the Latin American region to work towards a more sustainable future, as it has not seen much funding for green projects thus far. Itaú BBA will adhere to the IDB’s eligibility criteria for the selection of green projects and follow Bank guidelines for sustainability reports. [IDB Press Release]
