28 March 2011: The Annual Meeting of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Board of Governors was held in Calgary, Canada, from 25-28 March 2011, and featured panels on sustainable cities and the future of oil in a carbon-conscious world.

A seminar on sustainable cities, moderated by Naheed Nenshi, Mayor of Calgary, discussed actions aimed at solving the challenges of environmental sustainability, comprehensive urban development, fiscal sustainability and good governance from the perspectives of mayors of different Latin American cities. A seminar on the future of oil in a carbon conscious world was moderated by Chrystia Freeland, Global-Editor-at-Large, Reuters, and discussed discuss how to strike a balance between a world that is reliant on fossil fuels and the need to protect and preserve the environment.
