23 December 2010: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has released information on airline industry trends in 2010 that indicate quickening recovery from the downturn in 2009.

In a press release, ICAO notes that traffic increased 6.9% globally over depressed 2009 levels and that traffic will grow 4.7 and 4.9% in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Additionally, it notes that, in 2010, the two major aircraft manufacturers delivered 950 new, lower emitting aircraft to replace aging fleets in mature markets. ICAO indicates that these aircraft will help mitigate the growing footprint of aviation on the environment and help support efforts to combat climate change. [ICAO Press Release]
