unstats4 November 2015: The Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) has launched a three-day consultation, seeking final comments on SDG indicators that have been designated as “green,” reflecting broad agreement and availability of data. The online consultation is open to UN Member States that are not members of the IAEG-SDGs, UN agencies and other stakeholders. It opens on 4 November 2015.

At the Group’s second meeting (IAEG-SDGs 2), which took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 26-28 October 2015, the Group agreed on a work plan for further steps, including the three-day comment period.

In addition to the 159 proposed indicators coded as “green,” another 65, coded as “gray,” involve significant conceptual or methodological issues. According to its work plan, the group will address the gray-marked indicators from 1 December 2015-15 February 2016.

The IAEG-SDGs will consider the inputs received during the consultation as it prepares the final set of indicators to be submitted to the UN Statistical Commission (UNSC) at its 47th Session, in March 2016.

The Group notes, in its summary of IAEG-SDGs 2, that the “final decision on the number, type and formulation of the list of indicators will remain with the IAEG-SDGs Members.” It also recalls that each IAEG-SDGs member represents the views of her or his sub-region.

The consultation is open from 9 am EST on Wednesday, 4 November, to 9 am EST on Saturday, 7 November 2015. [Consultation] [Results of Indicator Review at IAEG-SDGs 2] [Summary of IAEG-SDGs 2 Outcomes] [IISD RS Story on IAEG-SDGs 2]
