March 2017: The Human Development Report Office (HDRO) has released apps for Android and iOS systems that provide access to the Human Development Report 2016 as well as to human development data.

The Human Development Report 2016 explored the theme, ‘Human Development for Everyone,’ and explored questions related to the fact that, in every society certain groups are more disadvantaged than others. The report offered policy recommendations at the national level and identified options for making the global development landscape more effective “in the fight to leave no one behind and achieve the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

The newly released apps allow the user to explore human development data, including the Human Development Index (HDI), global rankings, country profiles, HDI trends, and indicators. The HDI is a summary measure of average achievement based on dimensions of human development including life expectancy and health, education and living standards. The HDI “is the geometric mean of normalized indices for each of the three dimensions.”

The app user can also save and share visualizations and data tables. Resources including the Human Development Report 2016 and over 700 other human development reports, including global, regional and national HDRs, are also accessible on the app, along with news related to human development themes.
