10 July 2018: On the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), the board of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP on SCP) organized an event on implementing SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production). The event aimed to provide inputs to the HLPF on accelerating SDG 12 implementation and launched the One Planet network’s 2018-2022 strategy titled, ‘One Plan for One Planet.’ The One Planet Network is the network of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production. Ulf Jaeckel, 10YFP Board Chair and Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Germany, highlighted that the One Planet Network is an implementing mechanism for SDG 12, and promotes coordination among governments and non-government organizations (NGOs).
Annika Lindblom, 10YFP Strategy Task Force Chair and Ministry of the Environment, Finland, outlined the strategy’s objectives, including: catalyzing action by providing tools and solutions that shift to sustainable consumption and production (SCP); leading systemic and cohesive SCP implementation; and demonstrating SCP impacts and its role in addressing environmental and social challenges.
Other speakers highlighted, inter alia: the One Planet network’s coordinating and synergistic role for accelerating action on the ground; the network’s local projects, which focus on sustainable food systems; partnering with the network offers an opportunity for Mexico’s incoming administration to introduce an integrated SDG national action plan; and SCP promotion as an entry point for addressing other SDGs and to deepen collaboration with other SDG-related initiatives.
