13 October 2017: The dates for the 2018 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2018) have been announced.
The meeting will take place from 9-18 July 2018, at UN Headquarters in New York, US.
HLPF 2018 will be convened under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The meeting will address the theme, ‘Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies.’ A three-day ministerial meeting will take place during the final three days (16-18 July 2018).
HLPF will review implementation of SDG 6, SDG 7, SDG 11, SDG 12, SDG 15 and SDG 17.
Delegates will also review implementation of the following sub-set of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): 6 (Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all); 7 (Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all); 11 (Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable); 12 (Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns); and 15 (Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss). In addition, SDG 17 (Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development) is considered each year.
On 14 September 2017, the list of countries to present their Voluntary National Reveiws (VNRs) at the July 2018 HLPF session was closed, with a total of 48 countries having announced their intention to present VNRs. The countries who will present VNRs in July 2018 are: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Australia, Bahamas, Bahrain, Benin, Bhutan, Cabo Verde, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Greece, Guinea, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Jamaica, Kiribati, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR), Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mali, Malta, Mexico, Namibia, Niger, Paraguay, Poland, Qatar, Republic of the Congo, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sri Lanka, State of Palestine, Sudan, Switzerland, Togo, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Uruguay, and Vietnam.
