HLPF 2017 Concludes VNR Presentations, Adopts Ministerial Declaration

The Ministerial Declaration adopted at the close of HLPF 2017 addresses the theme, 'Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world'.

The eight-day session involved reports from countries on their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), a High-Level General Debate and thematic discussions on challenges related to seven specific SDGs.

19 July 2017: The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) concluded its 2017 meeting with the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration on the theme, ‘Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world.’The eight-day session heard reports from countries on their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), which outlined their plans and efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A High-Level General Debate took place during the second week, and thematic discussions also took place, to discuss challenges related to seven specific SDGs.

The Ministerial Declaration was adopted during the closing session after voting took place on paragraphs relating to peaceful, just and inclusive societies, including the removal of obstacles to the full realization of the right of self-determination of peoples living under colonial and foreign occupation, and means of implementation, including promotion of a universal, rules-based, multilateral trading system. The Declaration was adopted with both paragraphs intact.
