Top officials converge in Poland for UN climate change talks 11 December 2008: The High-level Segment at the UN Climate Change Conference in Poznań, Poland, opened on 11 December 2008. Four Heads of State and Government, as well as 145 Environment Ministers and senior government representatives, are scheduled to participate, with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon making an opening statement.

During the High-Level Segment, a ministerial round table on a
shared vision on long-term cooperative action on climate change will be
held. UNFCCC Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer explained that the round
table will provide an opportunity for top officials to examine the kind
of mechanism needed to “deliver on finance, on technology and on
capacity building to curb emissions, spur green growth and to cope with
