UNGA31 January 2014: The President of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), John Ashe, has appointed the Permanent Representative of Guyana, George Wilfred Talbot, and the Permanent Representative of Norway, Geir O. Pedersen, to serve as co-facilitators for informal consultations on the forthcoming third international conference on financing for (FFD). The consultations are expected to discuss the conference’s date, format, organization and scope.

The UNGA resolution ‘Follow-up to the International Conference on Financing for Development’ (A/C.2/68/L.75) requests the UNGA President to convene intergovernmental consultations on all issues related to the conference “as soon as possible” and requests the UN FFD Office to provide secretariat support.

In the resolution, the UNGA also decides to convene a third international conference on FFD in 2015 or 2016 to: assess progress made in implementing the Monterrey Consensus and the Doha Declaration on FDD; reinvigorate and strengthen the FFD follow-up process; identify obstacles and constraints encountered in achieving goals and objectives; identify actions to overcome these constraints; and address new and emerging issues, including in the context of synergies between financing objectives across the three dimensions of sustainable development and the need to support the post-2015 development agenda.
