Governments Planning UN’s 75th Anniversary Commemoration

Burhan Gafoor of Singapore and Bergdis Ellertsdottir of Iceland will serve as co-facilitators on the date and modalities for an event to commemorate the UN's 75th anniversary in 2020.

UNGA President Espinosa suggested that the commemoration provides an opportunity to “reiterate our collective attachment to the Organization and multilateralism".

13 February 2019: UNGA President Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces has appointed the Permanent Representatives of Iceland and Singapore to lead intergovernmental consultations on an event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the UN, in 2020. Espinosa suggested that the commemoration provides an opportunity to “reiterate our collective attachment to the Organization and multilateralism.”

Espinosa’s letter recalls that Member States expressed strong support for such a commemoration at an informal meeting of the General Committee on 5 December 2018.
