cpl20 October 2015: Global leaders have come together to launch the Carbon Pricing Panel and to urge countries and companies around the world to put a price on carbon pollution. The Carbon Pricing Panel was convened by World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde, joined by the Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Angel Gurria.

The Carbon Pricing Panel is made up of Heads of State, city and provincial leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, French President François Hollande, Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, President Benigno Aquino III of the Philippines, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Governor Jerry Brown of California, US, and Mayor Eduardo Paes of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. These global leaders are calling on their peers to join them in this effort, so as to steer the global economy towards a low-carbon, productive and competitive path.

The Carbon Pricing Panel aims to provide political momentum to complement the voices of government and industry leaders in the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition, an action-based platform set up at the UN Climate Summit in September 2014. It is based on the support for carbon pricing from 74 countries and 1,000 companies.
