Bioversity International23 July 2013: Following outcomes from the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20), global leaders in agriculture and biodiversity joined together in July 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to launch the Bridging Agriculture and Conservation Initiative.

The initiative is based on the premise that sustainable development goals (SDGs) cannot be met without approaching agricultural development from a perspective that conserves genetics, species and ecosystem diversity. The initiative acknowledges the need to build work on sound science and economics, and the need to share this work across global dialogues. It will bring together an international and interdisciplinary team of scientists to provide science-based solutions, as well as agricultural, development and conservation professionals to identify approaches to implementing these solutions.

Bioversity International, a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), is a launching member of the initiative. [Declaration on Bridging Agriculture and Conservation] [Bioversity International Press Release]
