Germany Ratifies ABS Protocol

Germany has ratified the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), bringing the number of ratifications to 74, including 73 countries and the European Union.

Germany - CBD22 April 2016: Germany has ratified the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), bringing the number of ratifications to 74, including 73 countries and the European Union.

CBD Executive Secretary Braulio Dias expressed the wish that more ratifications from the European Union and other developed countries as well as emerging economies would be forthcoming, drawing attention to the goal of reaching 100 ratifications before the meetings of the CBD and its Protocols, to be held in December 2016, in Mexico.
