31 July 2008: On his three-country tour of Latin America,
Srgjan Kerim, President of the UN General Assembly, has discussed climate
change with Michelle Bachelet, President of Chile, and addressed its importance
at a conference on the role of the UN in a globalized world.

At the conference, Kerim emphasized the UN’s role in bringing together different stakeholders and highlighted climate change as one
of the priorities for the UN General Assembly. Noting the connections between different global problems, he identified the “nexus between climate change, the food crisis, rising energy prices and the growing use of land to produce bio-fuels” as a prime example.
