GEF Reports on Developing Countries’ NCs and BURs Activities

The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the 'Information provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) on its activities relating to the preparation of national communications and biennial update reports' (FCCC/SBI/2015/INF.15).

UNFCCC6 November 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the ‘Information provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) on its activities relating to the preparation of national communications and biennial update reports’ (FCCC/SBI/2015/INF.15).

The GEF submitted the information following the invitation by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) for the GEF to continue to provide information on its activities relating to the preparation of non-Annex I Parties’: national communications (NCs), including information on the dates of approval of funding and disbursement of funds, as well as the approximate date of submission of the national communications; and biennial update reports (BURs), including information on the dates of requests for funding, approval of funding and disbursement of funds.

Annex I of the document outlines the status of non-Annex I Parties’ NCs, and contains the following information: the relevant Party; the Implementing Agency (IA); the submission date of the Party’s last national communication (whether initial, second, third or fourth NC); the date the IA approved the most recent NC project; the total amount approved; the date of initial disbursement of funds by the IA; the approximate expected date of completion of the draft NC report; the approximate expected date of submission of the report to the COP; and the status of project activities.

Annex II outlines the status of resources approved by the GEF for the preparation of non-Annex I Parties’ BURs, and contains the following information: the relevant Party; the Implementing Agency (IA); the submission date of the Party’s last BUR; the date of request for funding; the date of project clearance by the GEF; the date of approval by the GEF council; the date of approval by the IA; the total amount approved; the date of initial disbursement of funds by the IA: the amount of funding disbursed; the approximate date of completion of draft BUR; the approximate date of BUR submission to the COP; and the status of project activities.
