GEC Launches New Phase Focused on Inclusivity, Transparency and Influence
story highlights

Green Economy Coalition (GEC) members have agreed they should become a network that mobilizes the public, and challenges and holds government and business to account.

Following the Coalition's first two phases, share and learn (Phase 1), and collective influence for Rio+20 (Phase 2), it launched the third phase, focused on inclusivity, transparency and influence.

October 2012: The Green Economy Coalition (GEC) is launching its third phase, founded on inclusivity, transparency and influence. It also agreed to the need to move green economy debates into mainstream discussion. GEC members and supporters met on 7 October 2012, ahead of the second Global Green Growth Forum (3GF), to agree on next steps.

They noted that the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) had given a global mandate to build green, fair and inclusive economies, and that civil society must actively work with business and government as green economies evolve. They agreed that a distinction should be made between what GEC members can do and what only the Coalition can do. They also agreed that they should: become a network that mobilizes the public; build conversation and understanding within civil society; represent the individual work of members within a shared narrative; challenge and hold government and business to account; and join together for critical policy reform.

The Coalition’s first two phases were: share and learn (Phase 1), and collective influence for Rio+20 (Phase 2). [GEC Press Release] [GEC Phase 3 2013-2015, Friends and Founders Dinner Summary] [Website of 3GF]
