The Second Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (CGARD) provided an opportunity to examine the implementation of the GCARD Road Map and addressed: agricultural innovations for rural women; partnerships at spacial scales and across a variety of thematic issues, including climate change; the integration of the voice of smallholders into shaping priorities; and approaches to sharing and using knowledge.
1 November 2012: During the Second Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (CGARD) a broad range of stakeholders discussed the importance of open access to agricultural research, best practices on engaging smallholder farmers and implementation of the GCARD six-point Road Map.
The GCARD Road Map focuses on inclusive priority-setting, equal partnerships, increased investment, improved capacities, improved development impacts and better communication of achievements. During the Conference, sessions addressed: agricultural innovations for rural women; partnerships at spacial scales and across a variety of thematic issues, including climate change; the integration of the voice of smallholders into shaping priorities; and approaches to sharing and using knowledge.
The meeting was held in Punta de Este, Uruguay, from 29 October – 1 November 2012. The conference was sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and a range of other institutions. [GCARD 2012 Website]
