19 June 2012: The Group of 20 (G20) Summit in Los Cabos, Mexico, which took place from 18-19 June 2012, concluded with the adoption of a declaration that addresses, among other items, employment and social protection, food security, the challenges of development, and longer-term prosperity through inclusive green growth.

In the Declaration, the leaders emphasize the importance of inclusive green growth in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication as a means towards achieving development and economic goals, while protecting the environment, and improving social well-being. They reaffirm their commitment to sustainable development at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) and committed to maintaining a focus on inclusive green growth as part of the G20 agenda and in the light of agreements reached at Rio+20 and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The leaders also reiterate their commitment to addressing climate change and fully implementing the outcomes of the Cancun and Durban Climate change Conferences, as well as to working constructively with Qatar as the incoming Presidency of the next session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC. They welcome the creation of the G20 study group on climate finance, in order to consider ways to effectively mobilize resources.

G20 leaders also commit to continue efforts to enhance food security and address commodity price volatility, noting the disastrous consequences of food insecurity and price instability in developing countries, specifically Sub-Saharan Africa. Finally, they welcome the report on clean energy and energy efficiency technologies and the establishment of a Global Marine Environment Protection Best Practices Sharing Mechanism website.
