June
2008: During its presidency of the European Union, France will host an
international conference on the role of forests and their products in a post-2012
climate regime.

The
conference, entitled “The European Forest-based Sector: Bio-responses to
Address New Climate and Energy Challenges,” will take place in Nancy, France,
from 6-8 November 2008. The organization committee expects that the conference
will contribute information for negotiators preparing new post-2012
commitments. Discussions and presentations will focus on the role of the
forest-based sector in addressing: forests as carbon sinks; wood-based products
as carbon pools; and the sector as a source of renewable energy. [Conference
