The High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is inviting input on the scope of a study that aims to "review existing assessments and initiatives on the effects of climate change on food security and nutrition with a focus on the most affected and vulnerable regions and populations," with the findings to presented at the CFS Plenary session in October 2012.
13 June 2011: The High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has been requested to conduct a study on climate change to inform the policy decisions of CFS members, and is inviting input on the proposed scope of the study.
The aim of the study is to “review existing assessments and initiatives on the effects of climate change on food security and nutrition with a focus on the most affected and vulnerable regions and populations,” with the findings to presented at the CFS plenary session in October 2012. The proposed study will focus on: assessing direct and impacts of climate change on food security and nutrition; identifying vulnerable regions and populations; evaluating adaptation and mitigation options for food security and nutrition; and formulating recommendations for policies and actions. The HLPE is seeking input on whether the scope is appropriate, whether important elements have been omitted and what main aspects the report should emphasize.
