global_adaptation_network7 March 2015: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in collaboration with the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and the UNFCCC Secretariat and with support from the Governments of Japan, Spain and Norway, held the first Global Adaptation Network (GAN) Forum. Participants shared their experiences in exchanging adaptation knowledge, challenges in coordinating and facilitating knowledge dissemination, and means to improve availability and accessibility of such knowledge to users.

The Forum brought together participants from various adaptation knowledge networks, government officials and climate change adaptation experts, and took place in Panama City, Panama, from 6-7 March 2015.

As part of the ongoing consultation to explore and identify possible synergies between the Global Programme of Research on Climate Change Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation (PROVIA) and the GAN, PROVIA presented its ongoing work, supporting the GAN as a potential means to facilitate more effective dissemination of vulnerability, impacts and adaptation (VIA) knowledge, and to help PROVIA strengthen communication within the VIA research community in order to improve availability and accessibility of such knowledge through its regional networks. Forum participants provided examples of good adaptation communication practice and discussed why these were effective.
