United NationsOctober 2013: A Co-Chair’s summary of the first session of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on Sustainable Development Financing (ICSDF) has been released. Held from 28-30 August 2013, at UN Headquarters in New York, US, the meeting resulted in several decisions on the Committee’s agenda, modalities of work, calendar, working groups, and consultation.

The Committee adopted a provisional agenda for its work for all sessions (A/AC.282/2013/1), which can be revised depending on the progress of each session, and the dates of the remaining four sessions. The Committee also will work between sessions. It decided to organize its work into three Clusters, as follows: assessing financing needs, mapping of current flows and emerging trends, and the impact of domestic and international environments; mobilization of resources and their effective use; and institutional arrangements, policy coherence, synergies and governance issues. The Committee agreed to begin intersessional work on the first cluster immediately.

On Communication and Consultation, the Committee agreed to consult with stakeholders broadly on their work. Proposed activities include: multi-stakeholder consultations in the form of written contributions and dialogues; dedicated periods for interaction with Member States and other relevant stakeholders during each Committee session; interventions by outside experts at Committee meetings; and meetings organized by regional commissions. The Co-Chairs will share a document outlining consultation and communication activities with the Committee.

The Committee is chaired Pertti Majanen of Finland and Mansur Muhtar of Nigeria. [Co-Chair’s Summary] [Committee Website] [IISD RS Story on First Meeting]
