Fifth EU-Chile Association Council Discusses Global Environmental Issues

The Fifth EU-Chile Association Council meeting highlighted the need for active dialogue and cooperation between the two parties in multilateral fora in relation to Rio+20, biodiversity, sustainable energy and climate change.

7 October 2011: The Fifth EU-Chile Association Council meeting was held in Brussels, Belgium, on 7 October 2011. The resulting Joint Communiqué addresses the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), climate change and biodiversity, among other issues.

Ministers agreed on the importance of maintaining an active dialogue and cooperation in multilateral fora such as at Rio+20 in June 2012, on global agenda items requiring concerted action such as biodiversity, sustainable energy and climate change. Ministers agreed that the sixth meeting of the Association Council will take place in 2013. [Joint Communiqué]
