30 March 2012: The Participants Committee and the Carbon Fund of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF), which are hosted at the World Bank, recently held discussions on national readiness programmes for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries (REDD+) of a number of countries.

The meetings were held in Asuncion, Paraguay, on 24 and 26, and 28-30 March 2012. The governing body of the FCPF, the Participants Committee, heard readiness preparation proposals from Guatemala and Mozambique, and approved $7.4 million to support the two countries. Also discussed at the meeting was the delivery of REDD+ readiness funds through multiple delivery partners such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

At the Carbon Fund meeting, Costa Rica, Ghana and Nepal presented their ideas on potential national programmes, and participants discussed the types of information that countries should include in their Emission Reduction Program Idea Notes (ER-PINs) submitted to the Fund.

The FCPF and UN-REDD Programme also held a joint meeting to discuss country needs assessments, stakeholder engagement, community-based measurement, reporting and verification, and other topics of common interest. [Carbon Fund Meeting Documents] [Participants Committee Meeting Documents]
