February 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is organizing World Forest Week, “Forests in a changing world,” from 16-20 March 2009, in Rome, Italy, in conjunction with the 2009 meeting of the FAO’s Committee on Forestry (COFO).

One of the central themes of the Week is sustainable forest management (SFM) and climate change, which will include a keynote address by Gro Harlem Brundtland, the UN Secretary-General’s special envoy on climate change. Financing SFM and reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD), and ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change will also be addressed under this theme.
