2 March 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released “The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2008,” which recommends that existing responsible fishing practices be more widely implemented and current management plans be expanded to include strategies for coping with climate change.

The authors also call for: urgent efforts to help fishery and aquaculture-dependent communities to strengthen their resilience to climate change; and substantially improving fuel efficiency for the sector by adopting good fisheries management practices and tackling over-capacity.
