8 April 2011: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the second issue of the newsletter for its EX-ACT Tool, which provides ex-ante estimates of the impact of agriculture and forestry development projects on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and carbon sequestration.
The issue of the Newsletter describes activities from January-March 2011, noting the release of the third version of the EX-ACT Tool, which includes modules on forest degradation and organic soils. The tool is now available in Spanish, French and English and has undergone 22 appraisals in 17 countries. The tool has also been chosen for application in seven agriculture and rural development operations run by the World Bank.
The second issue links readers to three recent policy briefs from EX-ACT on: “Mainstreaming Carbon Balance Appraisal in Agriculture – EX-ACT: A Tool to Measure Carbon Balance;” “Climate Change and Agriculture Policies: How Far Should We Look for Synergy Building Between Agriculture Development and Climate Mitigation;” and “Climate Change Financing: What are the Challenges and Opportunities for Financing Agriculture in Africa.”
The Newsletter also describes the outcomes of meetings related to EX-ACT in Sweden, France, Rwanda, Tunisia and Turkey.
