story highlights

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has launched the ‘Forest Land Use Data Explorer' (FLUDE), an online platform that allows users to access data from FAO's Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) 2015 and other databases to facilitate exploration and analysis of forest land use change and global trends related to forests.

FLUDE9 October 2015: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has launched the ‘Forest Land Use Data Explorer’ (FLUDE), an online platform that allows users to access data from FAO’s Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) 2015 and other databases to facilitate exploration and analysis of forest land use change and global trends related to forests.

FLUDE draws on data that allows users to examine: forest area and characteristics; biodiversity and conservation; ecosystem services and protective functions; forest degradation and disturbance; livelihoods; ownership; forest production; and progress towards sustainable forest management (SFM). In addition to the FRA, FLUDE uses information from databases on agriculture, demographics, land use classification, markets and rangelands.

FAO publishes the FRA every five years using country reports prepared by national correspondents and remote sensing data collected by FAO. The reports aim to provide a consistent approach to describing the world’s forests and how they change over time.
