Expert Meeting Reviews ITTO Forest Management Guidelines

Participants at the meeting completed the final draft of the International Tropical Timber Organization's guidelines for the sustainable management of natural tropical forests, to be submitted for adoption by the ITTO Council, and discussed methodologies for field testing the guidelines.

25 August 2011: The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) has convened the second expert meeting for the review and update of its Guidelines for the Sustainable Management of Natural Tropical Forests. The meeting was co-organized with Brazil’s State of Acre Technology Foundation.

The meeting was held from 22-25 August 2011, in Acre, Brazil. In attendance were experts from ITTO member countries, as well as partner research institutions.

Participants completed the final draft of the Guidelines, which will be submitted for adoption by the ITTO Council at its next meeting, in November 2011. They also discussed methodologies for field testing of the Guidelines, and visited forest management operations in the state of Acre. [ITTO Media Release] [Meeting Website]
