The European Parliament has endorsed a new target of 95g carbon dioxide (CO2)/km for 2021, which will be averaged across the entire new car fleet sold in the EU.
This is a reduction of 27% compared to the 2015 target of 130g CO2/km.

According to the European Commission (EC), the 95g CO2/km target is achievable using technologies available today. Previous agreements saw a limit of 159g/km in 2007 and 132g/km beginning in 2012.
Commenting on the approval by the European Parliament, Climate Action Commissioner Connie Hedegaard stated that the agreement “gives the car industry planning certainty to produce more fuel efficient vehicles and saves consumers money.” [Background Information on the Agreement on Cars Emissions] [European Commission Press Release]
