The European Resource Efficiency Platform (EREP) aims to achieve the vision outlined in the European Commission's Roadmap to a Resource-Efficient Europe.
The Platform includes an online component, the Online Resource Efficiency Platform (OREP), which will allow stakeholders to access information on resource efficiency, and share their views and perspectives on opportunities and challenges to achieve sustainable growth.
5 June 2012: European Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik unveiled the European Resource Efficiency Platform (EREP), designed to facilitate achievement of the vision outlined in the European Commission’s Roadmap to a Resource-Efficient Europe, which aims to decouple resource use and economic growth. The EREP is organized around three elements: greening the economy; setting objectives and measuring progress; and framework conditions for investment in resource efficiency.
The Platform, which includes 34 members from the European Commission, European Parliament, the private sector, European Environment Ministries, international organizations, civil society and academia, is chaired by John Burton, former Prime Minister of Ireland. The EREP supports the shift towards sustainable growth via a resource-efficient, low-carbon economy. It is expected to provide initial recommendations in 12 months, with final outcomes in mid-2014.
