25 April 2010: The EU-US Development Dialogue, providing a framework for cooperation in tackling poverty worldwide, was re-launched on 25 April 2010, in Washington DC, US, after a decade of inactivity. Three roadmaps were agreed for joint action on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), food security, and climate change.

On climate change, both sides stressed the importance of adaptation, reducing emissions from deforestation, and mitigation. The EU also underlined the importance of ensuring the application of aid effectiveness principles to any additional funding for climate change adaptation and mitigation work in developing countries. The next EU-US Development Dialogue will take place in Europe in 2011. [EU Press Release]
