European Union 22 May 2014: The EU has launched Biodiversity for Life (B4Life), a EuropeAid’s flagship initiative meant to forge cross-sector partnerships to tackle biodiversity-related issues. In its purview, B4Life will include projects that increase monitoring and information sharing in the fight against wildlife crime.

B4Life will fund projects in least developed countries and countries containing “biodiversity hotspots,” during the current EU financial period, 2014-2020. A B4Life Facility will be established to manage and coordinate delivery of the initiative and a Wildlife Crisis Window will be put in place to address wildlife poaching and trafficking throughout the entire wildlife consumption chain. The Window will also support increased protection of priority areas, monitoring and investigation, and organizations fighting against the international trafficking of endangered species. [EU News]
