EU and Comoros Coordinate on IUU Fishing

Comoros committed to withdraw two vessels fishing in Senegalese waters under authorizations issued in breach of the provisions of the Senegalese Fisheries Code, and to strengthen inter-ministerial cooperation to prevent in the future any further registration of illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) vessels under the Comorian flag.

31 October 2011: Delegations from the European Commission and the Union of Comoros recently met to discuss the implementation of the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the EU and Comoros, including on the fight against illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing.

The competent authorities of Comoros committed to withdraw two vessels fishing in waters of Senegal, under authorizations issued in breach of the provisions of the Senegalese Fisheries Code. Furthermore, Comoros committed to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Fisheries to update the international lists of IUU fishing vessels, so that Comorian authorities can prevent any further registration of IUU vessels under the Comorian flag.
